GIANT SLALOM!

March 17th

The Most Fun You Can have in a Canoe (well, almost):

Freestyle Giant Slalom comes to Florida Freestyle Symposium

A splash from the past is resurfacing at the Florida Freestyle Symposium---the Giant Slalom. In the late 80’s and early 90’s Freestyle paddlers competed in more than just interpretive paddling. The original Giant Slalom and an event called Classic Figures also provided devotees of the high-level quiet water paddling skills with an opportunity to experience the excitement of competition.

Modified from the original, today’s Freestyle Giant Slalom combines the precision and elegance of the two buoy Classic Figures event with the heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat excitement of the slalom racing.  Each competitor runs a buoy course designed to approximate the real-world use of Freestyle maneuvers. Paddlers use Axles, X-Posts, Christies, Reverse Axles, and other specified Freestyle maneuvers to round buoys and strive for the fastest time through the course. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded.  Come join the fun Saturday afternoon, March 17th, at the Florida Freestyle Symposium!
